Mr. Pockets

This little boy made a discovery today, he has pockets.  Not just one, but two.  Two places to put his treasures -- fruit snacks, cars, balls and candy.
This is one of my favorite pictures of him ever.
He is becoming a little man, baby status no longer.  In his mind, he is as big as his brother and believes they have the same abilities.  When they wrestle Aysen doesn't play the 'I'm half your size card.'  He grits his teeth and takes after Kyler with all the fury his 24 pounds can muster.  It truly is amusing to witness.  That is until Kyler forgets he is battling a two year old . . . In 20 years when they are both full grown I will be the official referee of the arm and leg wrestle.  Not sure which one I'd put my money on.

Aysen was tested again for his development by the Early Intervention Program.  I'm happy to report his Language is now considered to be at a moderate delay instead of a severe delay.  He says 20 to 30 words and does an amazing job telling us when he is happy, sad, mad or in need of a snack.  He will only sign the words please and thank you and has never once tried to vocalize them.  Sign is still part of his routine but is gradually being replaced with words.

On the down side, his Fine Motor levels dropped from normal to severe.  He wasn't able to stack blocks or imitate a circle with a pencil.  His scores in Gross Motor, Cognitive, and Self Help continue to stay in the normal range.  The area he does best in is Social/Emotional.  In his test at 20 months he was at a developmental age of 34 months and this time was still well above.

I have some doubts on the complete accuracy of their testing but it is good to have a basis of where he is at.  In the near future all levels will be normal, I believe this with my entire soul.

He has also made some very good friends at playgroup and any time I tell him he gets to spend time with Miss Emily he puts his arms up in the air and cheers, "Yes."

I'm not to worried about his fine motor skills. He can shoot hoops accurately, he can hit baseballs pitched to him, and he is good at working a fork and spoon to his mouth. Not to mention, he used scissors correctly to open up a candy bar he stole from his oldest sister, who had been preserving for some reason. He is a bright, mischievous little fella. Loved your post, and the picture.

oh, my. that picture is dreamy.
glad little buddy is doing so well! like you, sometimes i wonder about the accuracy of those tests, but it is nice to have a jumping off point. maybe he didn't want to draw a circle because he thought the test giver was a serial killer... you never know.
olivia, who needed physical therapy to walk, is now the star dancer in 5-7 year old ballet and tap. what does this tell us? (that sentence makes me sound so smart)... i think it tells us that help is so helpful and our genius children will totally work it all out as they learn and grow.
spoken like an expert.

Darling Cousin Tina,
Thank you so much for the delightful card and for the most treasured picture. It is on my wall and made me so happy! So awesome. You are both kind and considerate and good. Thanks for being a most excellent F.C. to have!
Love,
MaRetard.
